Alibaba’s Ambitious AI Adoption Goal Set for 2025

More than half of the approximately 200,000 merchants on Alibaba.com have already integrated AI applications into their weekly operations, according to company president Zhang Kuo, during an interview with the South China Morning Post.

Recently launched AI tools aim to support merchants in various aspects such as marketing, product management, customer engagement, and risk management, aligning with Alibaba’s goal to boost its cross-border e-commerce segment.

“I believe that by the end of this year, the adoption rate should be 100 percent,” Zhang stated. He further emphasized that as vendors find these tools easier to manage, they will increasingly rely on AI agents for better performance.

Zhang’s insights reflect Alibaba’s increased focus on cloud computing and AI technologies. The company has committed to investing at least 380 billion yuan (about $52 billion) into enhancing its AI infrastructure within the next three years, marking the largest computing project funded by a single private entity in China.
