Yum! Brands Partners with Nvidia to Revolutionize Restaurant Technology
The quick-service restaurant (QSR) giant Yum! Brands has announced a strategic partnership with Nvidia to enhance its use of artificial intelligence (AI) across its restaurant brands.
This collaboration will apply cutting-edge AI technologies at Yum! Brands’ outlets, including KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Habit Burger & Grill. According to a press release on March 18, the partnership aims to scale Yum! Brands’ proprietary AI platform, Byte by Yum!, which leverages rich consumer datasets to develop smarter AI solutions.
Joe Park, chief digital and technology officer at Yum! Brands, stated, ‘This partnership will enable us to harness the rich consumer and operational datasets on our Byte by Yum! integrated platform to build smarter AI engines that will create easier experiences for our customers and team members.’
The AI initiatives will include voice-automated order-taking for drive-thru services, computer vision to enhance efficiency in drive-thru operations, and AI-driven analytics to assess restaurant performance and personalize management action plans.
Yum! Brands has already tested various AI solutions in selected Taco Bell and Pizza Hut locations and is set to rollout the technology to 500 locations in the upcoming quarter.
Looking forward, Yum! Brands plans to further expand AI integration to develop intelligent systems using Nvidia’s advanced software, as highlighted in the release.
Andrew Sun, global director of retail, CPG, and QSR business development at Nvidia, remarked, ‘Working with the Yum! Brands team to integrate Nvidia AI software breaks barriers to AI innovation in the restaurant industry—delivering real-time, context-aware intelligence, powered by a scalable inference platform.’
The Byte by Yum! AI platform is already operational in 25,000 international outlets and continues to roll out globally. In November, the company reported processing over 2 million successful orders with voice AI tools at over 300 Taco Bell locations, indicating a keen interest among franchisees to adopt this technology.
