Navigating AI Technology in Logistics: A Guide for Brokers

Understanding AI in Logistics

With the rise of AI technology, many brokerage firms and logistics companies are exploring new tools to maintain a competitive edge. Distinguishing between genuinely helpful products and those merely capitalizing on trends is challenging.

Identifying Workflow Bottlenecks

Dhruv Gupta, CEO of Drumkit, emphasizes the importance of brokers and 3PLs understanding their workflow bottlenecks to effectively leverage novel AI technology. “I was that nerd kid in high school, and I always thought trucks and trains were just cool,” Gupta mentioned, reflecting on his passion for optimizing transportation and logistics.

Gupta highlights that most of the public overlooks the significance of transportation. “Whether it’s commuting or getting the goods and services they need, most people don’t think about the supply chain or transportation until it stops working,” he shared.

Challenges of Integrating AI

Many brokers are grappling with the questions, “How do I use AI in my brokerage, and is it worth it?” Between data analysis, chatbots, and workflow automation, brokers often find it challenging to determine a practical approach that suits their needs. According to Gupta, the first step should be evaluating internal bottlenecks: “What is holding you back from growing?”

Incremental Solutions

Gupta advises a methodical approach: “Try fixing one variable at a time.” Many times, simply improving workflows or standard procedures can yield better results than introducing new tools. “Focus on yourself first,” he insists, stressing the importance of customizing solutions to meet specific needs.

Utilizing Drumkit for Enhanced Efficiency

Drumkit is engineered to enhance productivity through various means, such as expediting email processing. Gupta illustrates Drumkit’s capabilities by citing brokers who previously managed 40,000 loads monthly with a win rate of approximately 10%. “If you can bump the response rate up by a couple percent, the net value to your bottom line goes up dramatically,” he said.

A Future-Focused Mindset

Ultimately, Gupta asserts that automation does not eliminate responsibilities; instead, it enables employees to achieve more. “If you find that you have extra time in your day, go call a customer and book more business,” he advises, underscoring the potential for growth through AI integration.
