Rashidi, the associate dean of AI in medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, pointed out that the university’s Computational Pathology & AI Center of Excellence (CPACE) is recognized nationally and internationally for its advancements in healthcare AI.
Rashidi stated, ‘Our innovations in AI are enhancing diagnosis and decision-making processes in healthcare settings, making them more efficient.’ He urged policymakers to view AI not as a distant concept but as an urgent necessity that can reshape healthcare.
Further discussions also addressed how AI can enhance operations in Pittsburgh’s financial services sector, with representatives from BNY noting that their AI capabilities allow for improved data processing and better decision-making, ultimately benefiting clients.

Lawmakers and experts shared insight into how Pennsylvania can solidify its status as a leader in AI. Suggestions included attracting local talent, fostering a vibrant AI ecosystem in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and ensuring that energy supply meets the growing demands of AI technologies.
State Senator Pennycuick mentioned the potential of portable nuclear reactors and natural gas to boost energy supply for local AI data centers, stating, ‘Our current energy strategy must evolve if we intend to lead in the AI arena.’
