AI Adoption in the Middle East: Insights from MIT Sloan and Astra Tech

Recently, MIT Sloan Management Review Middle East in collaboration with Astra Tech released a comprehensive white paper titled Leveraging Actionable Gen AI in the Middle East. This document looks into the transformative opportunities created by large language models (LLMs), small language models (SLMs), and large action models (LAMs) for businesses in the UAE and beyond.

The findings reveal that the UAE is at the forefront of AI adoption, with approximately 53.25% of survey respondents based in the country. Nearly half of UAE companies are deeply integrating AI technologies, mainly focusing on customer service and product development.

“The findings from this whitepaper highlight the immense potential AI holds for transforming industries in the Middle East,” said Hassan Al Noon, SVP of Technology at Astra Tech.

Importance of Localisation

Localisation was emphasized as a key factor in maximizing the effectiveness of AI solutions. Al Noon noted that adapting technologies to the region’s cultural and regulatory context would enhance acceptance and impact.

The report underscores a growing enthusiasm for AI, with 27% of businesses actively exploring AI technologies and 36% in the early stages of adoption. The white paper serves as a rich resource for business leaders, technologists, and policymakers.

Retail Sector Innovations

In the retail sector, companies are utilizing AI models to enhance customer experience by analyzing purchase histories to offer tailored recommendations.

As AI adoption continues to grow across the Middle East, the report demonstrates the ongoing shift towards AI-driven customer engagement and improved operational efficiency.
