The landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) is on the brink of transformation as we move into 2025. Industry experts predict significant advancements in the adoption of generative AI by businesses, aimed specifically at enhancing efficiency and managing risks. Hillery Hunter, chief technology officer at IBM Infrastructure, stated, ‘Enterprises are already looking for technology to scale and implement AI,’ underscoring the growing trends of AI integration in business operations.
AI’s Role in Business Efficiency
Hunter suggested that enterprises may prefer smaller, more targeted generative AI models tailored to specific tasks, promoting cost efficiency. He elaborated that by utilizing ensembles—combining multiple machine learning models—businesses can optimize latency, efficiency, and accuracy across AI workloads. ‘For example, enterprises can use faster, energy-efficient models on a CPU for initial data processing, before switching to larger models on a GPU for complex tasks,’ he explained.
The Future of AI in Design and Creativity
In the architectural realm, AI’s influence is also growing, although its limitations in creativity must be acknowledged. Kostika Lala, co-founder of Flashcube Labs, emphasized that while AI aids in generating renderings, it cannot replace the fundamental creativity of human architects. He stated, ‘AI represents a change to the industry, but design results are still very basic.’ AI can assist architects by quickly modifying designs without the need for comprehensive modeling.
Challenges in AI Integration
Despite the promise of AI advancements, Hunter warned that businesses may struggle with disjointed AI processes, leading to a lack of genuine return on investment. ‘It’s time for enterprises to kill the Frankencloud—a disjointed environment where data is duplicated across various locations,’ he said, advocating for a holistic approach to AI project integration.
The Importance of Collaboration
As companies deal with ‘tech debt’—the backlog from failing to modernize IT infrastructure—collaboration across teams will be essential for leveraging AI effectively. Hunter conluded, ‘AI itself will help modernize IT, but collaboration at the executive level is critical.’ For architects, there is a need to manage creative copyright concerns as generative AI continues to evolve alongside human creativity.
The coming year promises to be crucial for both businesses and creative industries as they navigate the complexities of AI adoption, aiming to harness its potential while overcoming inherent challenges. Organizations that fail to enhance their AI capabilities risk being left behind as the technology continues to reshape operational landscapes.
