AI Revolutionizes Visitor Experience in Chinese Museums

Transforming Visitor Engagement in China

BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhua) — The China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) announced on Sunday its initiative to enhance visitor experiences at museums across the country using artificial intelligence (AI) assistants. This initiative involves collaboration with 13 provincial sci-tech museums, representing a notable advancement in AI-driven exhibitions nationwide.

The Launch of AI-Powered Assistance

In November 2024, CSTM launched its first AI-powered museum assistant, integrating large-model technology with popular science knowledge. This innovative assistant is designed to provide real-time guidance and information to visitors, while also addressing scientific inquiries from remote young learners. The initiative underscores AI’s transformative potential in educational environments.

Expanding the AI Initiative

Beginning in March, CSTM expanded its project by organizing workshops for technical teams across the 13 provincial museums. These teams constructed customized knowledge bases specific to their respective venues, deploying AI assistants that cater to localized needs.

A spokesperson for CSTM emphasized that the evolving technology landscape will foster a diversified AI ecosystem. As more museums participate in this initiative, a robust network of intelligent assistants will emerge, facilitating various applications and enriching the overall visitor experience.

“As technology advances and more museums join, the AI ecosystem will diversify, creating a smart, ubiquitous network of assistants for multiple applications,” stated a spokesperson from CSTM.

The integration of AI into museum experiences signals a promising future for educational engagement across China.
