Las Vegas Hosts World’s Largest Tech Show
The world’s largest technology showcase, CES 2025, commenced this week in Las Vegas, a city that continues to heal from a recent car bombing at Trump Tower. Attendees and exhibitors alike are eager to experience the latest from major tech brands including LG, Honda, Sony, and Nvidia, who are set to unveil an array of new products ranging from massive televisions to smart appliances.
AI Technologies Under Scrutiny
However, a significant point of discussion is the buzz surrounding artificial intelligence (AI). Following a year where AI was a buzzword sprinkled liberally across various products—sometimes without meaningful integration—there’s a growing concern about what AI truly represents in consumer technology.
An industry executive shared insights, noting that terms such as ‘smart’ have now transformed into ‘AI,’ often obscuring the actual functionality of products. CES 2024’s over-saturation of AI claims led to a lack of clarity about its applications, prompting its description as the ‘demure’ term of the tech world.
Research indicated that only 24 percent of consumers found AI genuinely beneficial, with many unsure of its purpose. Furthermore, studies reveal that while 30 percent of Australians have encountered AI like ChatGPT, only 13 percent utilize these services regularly.
Emerging Agentic AI
This year, CES anticipates the introduction of ‘Agentic AI’—a concept likened to an advanced virtual assistant that learns user preferences and habits to provide tailored suggestions.
Lari Hämäläinen from McKinsey & Company described this as a transformative step where devices can anticipate needs based on context, significantly enhancing user interaction with technology.
Innovative Products at CES 2025
Alongside AI, CES is renowned for showcasing cutting-edge displays. Last year’s highlight was an impressive 115-inch television from TCL, and attendees can look forward to LG’s transparent TV model. Meanwhile, Nvidia’s anticipated launch of the RTX 50 series GPUs promises to enhance gaming experiences with advanced performance.
The Future of Electric Vehicles
Automotive manufacturers are not left out, as CES evolves into a platform for electric vehicle (EV) advancements. While industry giants like BYD and Tesla are absent, other manufacturers like Hyundai plan to unveil a groundbreaking full-windscreen holographic display.
Although some products showcased are in prototype stages, excitement surrounds their potential entry into the market in the coming years. Ultimately, CES 2025 sets the stage for a bustling future in technology amidst lingering concerns about the genuine impact of AI.
The report was supported by LG during CES.
