AI’s Impact on Human Identity and Warfare: A Dual Perspective

AI’s Influence on Human Identity by 2035

A comprehensive new report suggests artificial intelligence will fundamentally reshape human behavior, cognition, and relationships within the next decade. Based on insights from 301 global experts, the report reveals that nearly 61 percent predict these changes will be deep and meaningful.

Erosion of Cognitive and Emotional Capacities

The report indicates potential declines in essential cognitive functions, with 50 percent of surveyed experts believing that the convenience of AI-generated information may diminish critical engagement with complex issues. Moreover, concerns about emotional development arise, as AI-driven relationships may appear preferable compared to real human interactions, leading to a dangerous commodification of connection.

Agency and Autonomy Under Threat

Experts predict a decline in individual independence, as automated systems could replace human judgment in decision-making processes. A significant portion of experts anticipates a negative transformation in humans’ perceptions of identity and purpose as AI integration challenges traditional notions of selfhood.

Polarization and Loss of Shared Reality

The report warns of increased polarization and erosion of trust in shared values due to AI’s potential to fragment consensus across societal norms. According to Giacomo Mazzone, a loss of factual knowledge poses a serious threat to social cohesion.

A Note of Optimism

Despite the concerns, some experts believe that if developed ethically, AI could enhance human capacities rather than diminish them, fostering greater global collaboration and innovation in personal health.
