Apple Health App to Receive AI-Powered Upgrade Under Project Mulberry

The future of generative AI looks promising as Apple gears up to revamp its Health app, incorporating artificial intelligence functionalities as part of what is being called “Project Mulberry.” The significant upgrade is anticipated to take place in Spring or Summer of 2024.

The Health app, which is designed to track a plethora of users’ health and wellness activities, will introduce an AI-powered health coach. According to a report from Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter featured by Bloomberg, this AI agent will focus on health-related inquiries, potentially replicating the advice of a personal doctor.

The AI health coach will analyze existing health data already collected from Apple devices, especially those of Apple Watch users, and provide tailored health advice and recommendations. Apple is also actively recruiting specialists in varied fields—physicians, nutritionists, and more—to ensure the AI functions effectively and accurately.

Apple’s Broader AI Aspirations

Having previously held back from embracing cutting-edge AI technologies, Apple’s integration of its AI technologies began in earnest with the introduction of iOS 18 last year. Despite claims of being behind its competitors, analysts expect an advanced version of Siri powered by generative AI in the future, a move that has encountered some delays.

Industry experts believe that Apple’s upcoming AI enhancements could place it back in the competitive race of AI technology development, particularly in health and wellness applications.
