Armenia is making a significant leap into the future of technology with the announcement of a nearly $500 million investment to create the region’s most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputing hub. The project, unveiled during Europe’s largest startup and tech conference Viva Technology, marks a collaborative effort between the Government of Armenia, NVIDIA, Firebird, and Team Group.
According to reports, the planned supercomputing center will utilize thousands of NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs in 2026, with scalability designed to exceed 100 megawatts of capacity. Firebird, supported by the Armenian government, aims to develop the infrastructure to enhance AI capabilities and data processing power in the country.
This strategic initiative is set to elevate Armenia’s technological landscape, fostering innovation and economic growth within the region. Team Group of Companies, managing Armenia’s leading telecommunications operator, will leverage its extensive communication infrastructure and regional expertise to bring this ambitious project to fruition.
The Afeyan Foundation for Armenia has also joined as a founding investor, with Noubar Afeyan, CEO of Flagship Pioneering, serving as a strategic advisor. The project exemplifies a robust partnership between the state and private sector, underscoring Armenia’s commitment to becoming a regional hub for IT and AI innovation.
Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, emphasized the project’s importance, stating “AI factories are the infrastructure of the 21st century. Our collaboration with Armenia will help build foundational AI capacity and unlock new opportunities for innovation and economic growth across the region.”
Local industry leaders expressed optimism about the project’s potential. Alexandr Yesayan of Team Group highlighted Armenia’s strategic positioning in the global digital landscape, saying “Our participation reflects our readiness to make Armenia a global center for AI solutions and digital progress.”
Similarly, Razmig Hovaghimian of Firebird articulated a vision of global collaboration, noting that “This project will serve as a launchpad for innovation, from Armenia to the wider world,” with plans to invest in advanced models, robotics, and partnerships with international universities.
U.S. representatives also support Armenia’s burgeoning tech scene. Kristina Kvien, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, remarked that “U.S. technology exports and AI leadership can drive innovation and benefit both the United States and Armenia,” recognizing the role of American companies like NVIDIA.
This historic venture signifies a strategic step forward for Armenia, positioning the country as a key player in the regional and global AI landscape, driven by collaboration, innovation, and long-term investment.
