The Future of Business Models with Agentic AI
In the Asia/Pacific (APAC) region, approximately 70% of organizations are predicting that agentic AI will significantly disrupt their business models within the next 18 months. This insight comes from the Understanding Agentic AI Technology Adoption in Asia/Pacific report published by IDC.
The survey, which encompassed 300 organizations across various sectors, illustrates a rising trend as businesses seek to bolster operational efficiency, enhance customer engagement, and empower decision-making with the help of agentic AI.
A New Era of AI
Unlike traditional Generative AI (GenAI), agentic AI incorporates decision-making, task execution, and multi-agent collaboration into enterprise workflows, paving the way for scalable, autonomous operations driven by AI.
According to Deepika Giri, head of Research for Big Data & AI at IDC Asia/Pacific, ‘Agentic AI workflows offer a more intelligent approach to adopting and integrating GenAI into business operations.’ She highlights the need for attention to security and trust during the implementation of such systems.
Challenges Ahead
While organizations prepare to embrace multi-agent system architectures, they must also develop data ecosystems that prioritize security and automation. The ability of agentic AI to enhance speed, efficiency, and decision-making is compelling, although several challenges, including explainability, governance, and data security, remain.
Surjyadeb Goswami, research director for AI & Automation at IDC Asia/Pacific, notes the practical applications: ‘Apart from customer care, which is the earliest adopter of agents, ITOps, and research and development are the top two areas where agentic AI will be integrated across enterprises.’
Ultimately, as organizations continue to evolve their operational frameworks, prioritizing secure and efficient agentic AI system development will become increasingly vital for sustaining competitive advantages in a fast-paced market.
