AI’s Impact on Job Creation
According to new research from ServiceNow, the UK job market could see a significant transformation with the creation of 610,000 new roles by 2028 due to advancements in AI. This research, which analyzes data from various work markets using machine learning, highlights the potential of AI across different sectors.
Sector-Specific Growth
ServiceNow’s findings indicate that the technology, media, and telecom sectors will collectively account for an estimated 320,000 roles by 2029. Additionally, education and healthcare sectors could see an increase of 190,000 and 90,000 jobs, respectively.
Challenges and Opportunities
Despite the positive outlook, the study also warns of AI’s negative impact, with potential job losses in retail (240,000 jobs), manufacturing (90,000), and financial services (50,000) by 2028. Daniel Stirrett, Group VP & GM UK & Ireland, notes, “AI will disrupt the workforce but also create a net-positive gain in employment.”
Future Workforce Dynamics
ServiceNow suggests that while AI might replace certain jobs, it will also create new opportunities, particularly in tech roles such as system administration, where productivity could increase by up to 12.6 hours weekly. Emerging technologies will require implementation and maintenance, leading to the creation of an additional 400,000 roles.
Conclusion
Overall, ServiceNow believes that the global workforce will grow, except in ageing populations like Germany and Japan. By addressing the perception that AI could replace human jobs, the report highlights emerging markets and a shift in workforce dynamics rather than complete job elimination.
