Grok AI: Free Access for All Users with Limited Features

In a surprising development, X (formerly Twitter) has made Grok, its AI-powered chatbot, available free of charge to all users. This announcement arrives just a month after reports indicated that the platform had been testing a free version of Grok in select regions.

Initially launched in 2023 as a “humorous AI assistant,” Grok was only accessible to Premium subscribers. With its wider availability, it now enters competition with well-known AI chatbots like Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, OpenAI ChatGPT, and Anthropic’s Claude.

However, users should be aware that Grok’s free version does come with restrictions. Free users are permitted to send only 10 messages every two hours and can analyze up to three images per day. Unlike its previous iteration, Grok-2 mini, the current free version operates on the Grok-2 beta large language model.

🚨Breaking: Grok free tier is now available worldwide.

It is very limited:
Can analyze 3 images a day
Can do 10 messages per 2 hours including images

X has also removed Grok 2 mini. You can now only make queries to Grok 2.

Currently, Grok is well integrated with X, allowing users not only to retrieve information but also analyze posts and accounts. Although it can process images, it does not support document analysis for formats like PDF and Word files. Nonetheless, Elon Musk has hinted at future updates that may introduce such capabilities.

Further developments from Grok’s parent company, xAI, include a successful funding round of approximately $6 billion. There are also plans to launch a dedicated Grok app, along with an API for developers to build new applications using Grok.
