Jennifer Hale Speaks Out Against AI in Gaming
Recently, renowned voice actor Jennifer Hale expressed strong opposition to the increasing use of AI in the gaming industry. She criticized the trend of replacing human voice actors with AI, which is seen as a cost-cutting measure that could impact livelihoods.
Why is AI a Concern?
Hale, known for her roles in games like Baldur’s Gate and Mass Effect, argues that AI is a tool that can be used for both creation and destruction. She emphasized the importance of fair compensation when technology uses elements derived from human voices.
AI is just a tool like a hammer. If I take my hammer, I could build you a house. I can also take that same hammer and I can smash your skin and destroy who you are.
Industry Reactions
Other voice actors, including Roger Clark and Ned Luke, have also voiced their concerns about AI replication. Doug Cockle, known for The Witcher, described AI replication as ‘plain and simple theft’.
