
On March 14, 2025, Konica Minolta, Inc. announced the extension of its joint research agreement with the University of Toronto for an additional five years. This collaboration focuses on accelerating technology development in the AI-enhanced sensing field.
Since September 2020, Konica Minolta has been actively involved in joint research with the University of Toronto, an institution renowned for attracting AI researchers globally. The aim of this collaboration is to apply imaging AI technologies to enhance processing performance, improve manufacturing quality control, and optimize data processing in distributed systems.
With this extension, Konica Minolta plans to intensify its efforts in the AI-enhanced sensing domain, targeting the development of materials that mitigate environmental impacts and pursuing unmanned manufacturing processes through AI analytics of large data sets gathered from various sensing devices.
Technology Strategy and Future Directions
As part of its Medium-term Business Plan (2023–2025), Konica Minolta emphasizes two key priorities: enhancing technology development for business expansion and preparing technologies for future growth. This strategic approach involves utilizing proprietary technologies and solving pressing issues related to effective resource utilization and climate change.
