Lockheed Martin Launches Astris AI to Propel AI Adoption in Defense Sector
Lockheed Martin is taking a significant step forward in artificial intelligence integration with the formation of its new subsidiary, Astris AI. This initiative aims to enhance the adoption of AI technologies by developers, manufacturers, and suppliers in the defense sector that have high assurance requirements.

Astris AI focuses on providing solutions that address critical challenges in the defense industry related to the pace of technological advances and the complexities of developing reliable, security-focused AI tools. Lockheed Martin has acknowledged the increasing demand for AI expertise, which is currently outstripping the supply of specialists in the field, thus hindering progress in scalable AI capabilities.
Key Offerings and Leadership
The subsidiary will offer several foundational products, including Lockheed’s AI Factory Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) and generative AI platforms, which are designed to be modular, adaptable, and cost-effective. Furthermore, Astris AI will provide end-to-end consultative engineering services, covering implementation, training, and model development.
Donna O’Donnell, Lockheed’s Chief Revenue Officer and former leader in global AI sales at Xerox, has been appointed to head Astris AI. “Astris AI is perfectly positioned to deliver AI/MLOps solutions across industries,” she stated, emphasizing the combination of Lockheed Martin’s expertise with the agile approach of Astris AI to navigate the complexities of technological evolution.
