Meta Unveils AI Model to Enhance Metaverse Experience
Meta announced on Thursday the launch of an artificial intelligence model called Meta Motivo, aimed at controlling the movements of human-like digital agents to enhance the Metaverse experience.
The company, which has invested tens of billions of dollars into AI and augmented reality, has raised its capital expense forecast for 2024 to a record forecast of between $37 billion and $40 billion.
In its strategy, Meta has been releasing several AI models for free use by developers, believing that an open-access approach could create better tools for its services. The company stated, ‘We believe this research could pave the way for fully embodied agents in the Metaverse, leading to more lifelike NPCs (non-playable characters), democratization of character animation, and new types of immersive experiences.’
Meta Motivo particularly addresses issues regarding body control often seen with digital avatars, allowing for more realistic, human-like movements. Additionally, Meta introduced a new language modeling training method, the Large Concept Model (LCM), designed to separate reasoning from language representation.
The LCM, as explained by the company, is a significant shift from typical LLMs (large language models), stating, ‘Rather than predicting the next token, the LCM is trained to predict the next concept or high-level idea, represented by a full sentence in a multimodal and multilingual embedding space.’
Other AI innovations from Meta include the Video Seal, which embeds a hidden watermark into videos, remaining imperceptible to viewers yet traceable.
