Joelle Pineau Announces Departure from Meta

April 1 (Reuters) – Joelle Pineau, the head of artificial intelligence research at Meta Platforms, has announced her decision to leave the company on May 30. This announcement comes as Meta intensifies its efforts in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

A Career in AI at Meta

Pineau has dedicated the last eight years to Meta, leading the Fundamental AI Research group since 2023. In her tenure at the tech giant, she has played a pivotal role in the development of numerous projects, including notable technologies such as PyTorch and Roberta.

In her LinkedIn announcement, Pineau stated, ‘Today, as the world undergoes significant change, as the race for AI accelerates, and as Meta prepares for its next chapter, it is time to create space for others to pursue the work.’ This reflects Meta’s ongoing commitment to AI, further consolidated by a recent restructuring of its AI division.
