O’Fallon Police Department Enhances Dispatch with AI
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The O’Fallon Police Department in St. Charles County is breaking ground in emergency response by integrating advanced artificial intelligence technology into its 911 dispatch center. This innovative approach aims to improve the quality of service and provide valuable training tools for dispatchers.
Utilizing a system known as CommsCoach, developed by GovWorx, the department has become the first in Missouri to implement this technology, which is also being adopted by many other 911 centers across the nation.
Understanding the AI Integration
CommsCoach analyzes data from 911 calls, radio communications, and call notes to generate a score for dispatchers based on their inquiry effectiveness during calls. Emergency Communications Supervisor Melinda Clark highlighted the importance of this scoring system, stating, ‘What this program does is it helps us make sure we’re asking on a consistent basis the questions that need to be asked.’
Importance of Effective Communication
Clark explained that these inquiries are crucial in preparing police officers for the nature of emergencies they will encounter, enhancing safety for both the callers and public. The system provides dispatchers immediate feedback post-call, allowing them to review their performance critically.
Training Advantages
The technology also offers simulated calls that help dispatchers practice their response to various scenarios in a controlled environment. Clark emphasized, ‘This is much more of a real feel,’ as it closely resembles actual calls. Dispatcher Nick Harper remarked that this system builds confidence to handle lesser-known scenarios effectively.
Conclusion
As technology continues to evolve, the O’Fallon Police Department sets a precedent for integrating AI in emergency services, ensuring enhanced preparedness and response efficiency in their community.
