OpenAI and Meta Explore AI Partnerships with Reliance Industries

OpenAI and Meta Platforms are reportedly in discussions with India’s Reliance Industries regarding potential collaborations to enhance their artificial intelligence offerings across the nation. The tech news outlet The Information reported on this development.

One of the intriguing prospects mentioned involves a potential partnership between Reliance Jio and OpenAI, aimed at distributing the popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT. The conversations have suggested significant moves in the AI landscape.

In addition, OpenAI has been contemplating reducing the subscription fee for ChatGPT from its current $20 per month to a more affordable rate of several dollars. However, it remains unclear if this price decrease has been a topic during discussions with Reliance.

Reliance Industries is also interested in integrating OpenAI’s AI models for its enterprise clientele, which could be facilitated through an application programming interface (API). Furthermore, there are plans for Reliance to locally host OpenAI’s models, ensuring that data from Indian customers remains secure within the country.

With a focus on infrastructure, Reliance is planning the construction of a massive three-gigawatt data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which is touted to be the largest data center in the world. This facility may provide a robust environment to run AI models from both OpenAI and Meta.

While Meta has opted not to comment on these discussions, both OpenAI and Reliance did not immediately respond to inquiries seeking clarification on the matter.

Reliance Industries stands as a leading conglomerate in India, with its interests sprawling across various sectors including petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecommunications, and green energy.
