OpenAI has recently come under fire as it suspended access to its promising video generation tool, Sora. This decision was prompted by a protest from a small group of artists who argued that their involvement in testing the tool came with minimal compensation and unfair treatment.
Initially, OpenAI granted hundreds of artists free and early access to Sora to test the capabilities of this advanced AI video generator. However, around 20 artists who participated in the beta testing expressed their frustration over what they termed as the company’s exploitation of their work. They claimed they were being utilized as ‘PR puppets’ to enhance the company’s public image without adequate compensation.
The artists’ protest emphasizes ongoing concerns regarding the treatment of creative professionals within the tech industry, particularly in the wake of increasing reliance on artificial intelligence tools.
