Pearson Confirms CTO Expansion Amid AI Focus
Pearson, a global leader in educational services, has announced the expansion of Chief Technology Officer Dave Treat’s responsibilities, marking a significant enhancement in their approach to artificial intelligence (AI) and digital strategy. This decision was conveyed by Pearson’s CEO, Omar Abbosh, in a recent LinkedIn post.
Treat will oversee the company’s entire digital and technology operations, solidifying his role as a pivotal figure in Pearson’s technological advancements. In his announcement, Abbosh emphasized the rapid pace at which the company is expanding its AI capabilities. He stated, ‘We are moving quickly to build out our AI capabilities to support learners, educators, employers, and workers in an era that requires many new skills.’
Dave Treat, who joined Pearson in 2024, has been instrumental in creating the AI Center of Enablement and has a strong background in technology with over 100 patents. With this new role, he is expected to leverage innovative technology to enhance learning experiences.
Leadership Changes
Along with Treat’s expanded role, Abbosh announced the departure of Marykay Wells, Pearson’s Chief Information Officer, effective April 4. Abbosh expressed his appreciation for Wells’s contributions to the company, particularly her leadership in the transition from print to digital formats. ‘She has made a strong contribution at the helm of our technology efforts,’ Abbosh noted.
Looking Ahead
Treat is set to lead Pearson’s digital transformation as the company increasingly integrates AI into its operations. His vision for the future of Pearson focuses on using technology to provide enhanced educational resources and support for its users. As he stated, ‘Being part of Pearson at this thrilling juncture for the company is a source of pride for me.’ The formal start of Treat’s new responsibilities is slated for April 7.
