San Jose State University Students Innovate with CollegeBot.AI: A New Era in Academic Counseling

A Revolutionary Solution for Academic Counseling

A dedicated team of students from San Jose State University (SJSU) has made waves in the educational landscape by launching CollegeBot.AI, an artificial intelligence platform designed to streamline the process of academic counseling and course selection. This innovative initiative emerged from the recognition that navigating academic requirements had become increasingly complex.

The Birth of CollegeBot.AI

According to Gabriel Castaneda, a co-founder of CollegeBot.AI, the platform was created to provide students with easier access to academic resources and information from the university’s website, which can often be overwhelming. Castaneda shared, ‘At first it was just to allow students easy access to information from the school’s website because it’s really bloated with all these different resources and drop down menus. It’s difficult to find stuff.’ Now, students can interact with the AI as though they are speaking to another person, significantly improving the accessibility of information.

A Growing User Base and Investment Attraction

Since its inception, CollegeBot.AI has gained traction, boasting over 20,000 users as of the fall semester. Castaneda noted that students hope to expand their reach further with effective marketing strategies and word-of-mouth promotion. ‘We figured, AI is changing all of technology, right? The school is not going to catch up to it quickly enough so why don’t we do something about it,’ he explained.

Investment Success and Future Aspirations

The student-led initiative did not go unnoticed by investors; CollegeBot.AI attracted over $500,000 in venture funding, thanks in part to connections made by their team member Kai Zhao. Business entrepreneurship major Nicolaus Hilleary reflected on the journey: ‘We were able to meet with a lot of venture firms or angel investors and pitched them our idea.’ With continuing interest from investors, the team aims to expand its services further and secure a contract with SJSU.

Potential of AI in Education

Business professor Anuradha Basu, who organized the Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge, emphasized the urgency of meeting the growing demand for accessible academic resources. ‘AI is the disruptive and transformative technology of the moment, and it is going to affect every single industry and every single business,’ Basu remarked, highlighting the relevance of innovations like CollegeBot.AI in today’s educational framework.

A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, the team hopes to scale CollegeBot.AI to other campuses across the nation, transforming how students interact with educational resources. As accounting major Glerys Gonzalez, now the digital marketer for CollegeBot.AI, put it, ‘This isn’t just a project, we’re an established company.’ This innovative venture exemplifies the potential for AI to reshape academic advising and improve student experiences.
