Senate Confirms Michael Kratsios as New OSTP Director
The Senate has confirmed Michael Kratsios to serve as the director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) with a bipartisan vote of 74-25. Kratsios, who has previously served as the managing director of Scale AI and as chief technology officer during the first Trump administration, will lead the OSTP, focusing on the administration’s artificial intelligence policy.
During his February confirmation hearing, Kratsios faced questions regarding mass firings of federal workers under the previous administration; however, his nomination advanced with broad support from both Republicans and Democrats.
President Trump initially announced the nomination of Kratsios in December, along with several other key appointments focused on science and technology. The OSTP will play a crucial role as it works alongside other initiatives in AI and technology.
This confirmation comes as the administration solicits public input to outline an AI action plan that will guide future policy on artificial intelligence, an area that has seen significant activity and investment recently.
Importance of AI Policy Development
As the OSTP becomes more involved in artificial intelligence, the focus will be on creating a balanced framework to nurture innovation while ensuring ethical use and governance.
With Kratsios at the helm, the administration aims to leverage AI responsibly while maintaining leadership in global technology development.
