South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT, in collaboration with the country’s leading science and technology institutions, has launched the InnoCORE Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, aiming to recruit 400 postdoctoral researchers. The fellowship aims to increase South Korea’s competitiveness in artificial intelligence (AI) and science and technology, advancing research across four key areas: biomedicine, aerospace, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.

The program also addresses brain drain and aims to attract global talent. It specifically targets early-career researchers with the goal of nurturing future leaders in AI and science. Supported by a $222 million investment over five years by the South Korean government, the program offers fellows an annual salary of $66,000, with potential for additional research funding.

Fellows will have access to cutting-edge research facilities and guidance from international and domestic experts. A Ministry of Science and ICT official emphasized the strategic importance of the program: ‘In the global competition for AI expertise, postdoctoral researchers are strategic assets for national innovation. Through the InnoCORE program, we are committed to creating a world-class research environment and fostering global partnerships that enable early-career scientists to lead transformative breakthroughs.’

Research areas under InnoCORE include AI-based drug discovery, smart manufacturing, large language models, AI in aerospace, AI-nano convergence for neurodegenerative disease detection, bio-embodied physical AI, AI-driven hydrogen technology, and space solar technologies. Industry partners include Samsung, Hyundai, LG, and prestigious global institutions such as MIT, Stanford, Harvard, and Oxford.
