Tamil Nadu Launches 2 Million Square Foot IT Park to Promote AI Development

Tamil Nadu Unveils Major IT Initiative

Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin, recently announced an ambitious plan to develop a 2 million square foot IT park in Coimbatore. This initiative is part of a broader strategy through a public-private partnership to emphasize the growth of artificial intelligence technologies.

At the Umagine TN 2025 Summit, CM Stalin said, ‘AI is a pivotal factor in shaping our future’. He assured the younger generation that the rise of technology will result in increased job opportunities rather than diminish them.

Building on Historical Advances

The Chief Minister pointed out the historical advancements in Tamil Nadu’s IT sector, referencing the establishment of Tidel Park in Chennai by former Chief Minister Karunanidhi as a foundational move. The current initiative aims to enhance the state’s digital infrastructure with new IT parks planned for cities beyond Coimbatore, including Salem and Madurai. This is an effort to distribute technological growth more evenly across Tamil Nadu.

Commitment to Cybersecurity

In addition to fostering technological advancements, CM Stalin addressed the importance of cybersecurity, announcing a new policy set to launch in 2024 aimed at combating digital crimes.

Partnerships for Talent Development

To support these initiatives, Tamil Nadu has entered into partnerships through 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth 78 crores with major corporations. These collaborations are designed to train young talent and ensure that job opportunities extend beyond the state capital, Chennai.
