New Jersey Takes Steps to Demystify Emerging Technologies

Town Halls to Demystify Emerging Technologies in New Jersey

In an effort to bridge the knowledge gap surrounding new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency, and blockchain, the New Jersey Innovation & Technology Alliance (NJITA) has announced a series of town halls. The initiative aims to connect the tech community with policymakers and enhance public understanding of these digital advancements.

Executive Director Carlos Iván Merino emphasized the importance of educating various stakeholders, stating, ‘New Jersey has a strong foundation as a technology and business hub.’ He noted that the state is building a digital asset ecosystem that embraces advancements in blockchain and AI.

New Jersey ranks highly in the nation for cryptocurrency ownership, with over 200 startups in the blockchain and Web3 space contributing significantly to the local economy. A report from the U.S. Blockchain Coalition noted the state’s impressive venture capital investment in Web3, amounting to $2.73 billion.

Merino pointed out, ‘These businesses are creating jobs, attracting investment, and reinforcing New Jersey’s position as a leader in the future digital economy.’ He believes that by bringing together leaders in technology and innovation, NJITA can advocate for policies that support growth in the tech sector.

Academic institutions like Rutgers and Princeton are already offering specialized courses focused on blockchain, enhancing New Jersey’s reputation as a hub for innovation. Merino asserted that, ‘This work not only enhances New Jersey’s reputation as an innovation hub but also equips the next generation of innovators to tackle real-world challenges with blockchain-powered solutions.’

However, Merino acknowledged the necessity of establishing clear policies to ensure sustainable growth in the blockchain ecosystem. He stated, ‘We encourage collaboration between industry leaders and policymakers to develop forward-thinking policies that attract investment and solidify the United States leadership in digital innovation.’”
