Vice President JD Vance Addresses Concerns Over AI Job Replacement
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Vice President JD Vance discussed the prevailing fears regarding artificial intelligence (AI) replacing jobs during his remarks at the American Dynamism Summit. He argued that there is ‘too much fear’ surrounding AI’s impact on employment.
Vance drew on the wisdom of Pope John Paul II, quoting his 1981 letter ‘Laborem Exercens,’ which addresses the significance of work in society. The Pope wrote, ‘Through work, man must earn his daily bread and contribute to the continual advance of science and technology.’ Vance emphasized that technology should enhance, not replace, labor, stating, ‘I think there’s too much fear that A.I. will simply replace jobs rather than augmenting so many of the things we do.’
He referenced a previous discussion at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit, expressing belief that fears related to AI takeover are overblown. Vance also touched on a social media conversation regarding potential divisions between populist and technological communities, asserting that such a premise was misguided.
‘I think the reality is that in any dynamic society, technology is going to advance,’ he explained, indicating that the evolution of the labor market may include new forms of employment rather than outright job loss.
