The General Services Administration’s 2024 cohort of U.S. Digital Corps fellows will primarily focus on artificial intelligence and AI-related projects, as announced by the agency on Tuesday.
This two-year paid fellowship has welcomed a total of 70 fellows into its third cohort, with over 40 of them dedicated to AI initiatives in response to the National AI Talent Surge, according to the press release. These fellows are employed across various government sectors to support critical technology initiatives, including the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts to enhance cybersecurity and drug capture.
“Growing the U.S. Digital Corps is crucial to driving innovation across the federal government, especially as emerging technologies like AI evolve,” stated GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan in the release. “GSA is focused on delivering great value to our customer agencies and the American people, so we are proud to help lead the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to bring tech talent into government to deliver those results.”
The latest group of fellows will collaborate with 19 agencies throughout the federal landscape. Six new agencies have joined the U.S. Digital Corps for this cohort, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Internal Revenue Service, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
Fellows at FEMA are expected to assist the agency in providing disaster survivors with a more streamlined, accessible, and equitable process for applying for and receiving disaster support.
Moreover, participants from the U.S. Digital Corps at the Department of State will utilize research and analytics to enhance consular design, which encompasses passport and visa services for both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals, as noted in the release.
