Xiaomi Leads AI Revolution in Manufacturing with New Electric Vehicle

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) — Every 76 seconds, a new Xiaomi car rolls off the production line at its assembly plant located in the suburbs of Beijing. This showcases the company’s efficiency and the technological advancements in its operations.

The assembly workshop sees more than 700 robots operating at all hours, guided by artificial intelligence (AI) technology, emphasizing the increasing role of automation in modern manufacturing.

This trend isn’t exclusive to Xiaomi. Experts anticipate that the next three to five years will be pivotal for rapid advancements in AI technology, driving industrial innovation across various sectors.

Even in China’s traditional industrial heartlands, companies are embracing these changes. For instance, Harbin Electric Machinery Co., Ltd. in Heilongjiang Province has enhanced production efficiency by about 40 percent following the introduction of an AI-guided magnetic pole welding robot workstation.

Wei Fangkai, manager of the company’s intelligent manufacturing department, noted, ‘Compared with traditional welding methods, the welding robots offer higher precision, better stability, and improved efficiency.’

Across northeastern China, over 279 provincial-level smart factories and digital workshops have been established, signaling a national shift towards high-quality development backed by AI technologies.

AI is not only modernizing established industries but is also transforming emerging sectors. A satellite super factory in Taizhou produces approximately 500 satellites a year and illustrates the impact of intelligent technology. This facility has reduced satellite production time to just 28 days, significantly lowering costs.

A report by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology highlights that AI is facilitating a comprehensive transformation in manufacturing by improving integration with intelligent technologies.

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into manufacturing processes, experts predict even broader automation opportunities ahead. Huang Tiejun, a computer science professor at Peking University, stated, ‘AI models will handle increasingly complex and refined tasks, developing unforeseen new capabilities.’

With nearly 10,000 digitized workshops and smart factories established nationwide, China’s commitment to AI and digital transformation in manufacturing is clear. As companies like Xiaomi push the envelope in electric vehicle production, they pave the way for the future of intelligent manufacturing in China.
