XJTLU Hosts AI Learning Day to Enhance Understanding of AI Technology

On December 19, 2024, XJTLU’s Centre for Knowledge and Information (CKI) hosted a significant event called ‘AI Learning Day: From Awareness to Practice’. The gathering aimed to showcase how artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance learning, teaching, research, and administrative processes. This initiative not only improved the participants’ understanding of AI technology but also provided practical experiences that could inspire future educational paradigms.

Professor Qiuling Chao, Vice President of Student Affairs and Information at XJTLU, commenced the day with a welcome address emphasizing the transformative power of AI. ‘AI offers us an opportunity to rethink education, helping us create a more equitable, efficient, and personalised learning environment. I hope that today, participants will not only recognise the potential of AI but also discover innovative pathways that can be applied in their own practices,’ she stated.

The event featured the launch of the latest version of the University’s XIPU AI platform by Jing Wang, Deputy Director of the XJTLU Learning Mall. Throughout her presentation, Wang demonstrated how the platform leverages advanced large language models, providing varied solutions from personalised learning experiences to effective knowledge management. She encouraged both staff and students to actively engage with the platform and share their insights.

During the program, Dr. Tim London, Director of Learning and Teaching at the Academy of Future Technology, provided critical insights into the evolving role of universities in the age of AI. He challenged attendees with the question: ‘How can AI technologies be integrated into our academic offerings to better assist students? It is essential to rethink how AI aligns with higher education’s mission and goals.’

Hands-on Learning and Networking

The day was highlighted by interactive booths where participants engaged with AI applications across various disciplines. With 14 booths organized by different departments, attendees explored innovative AI implementations in areas like design, language, science, library services, and more.

Through hands-on demonstrations and open dialogue, the event fostered understanding of AI technologies and promoted collaboration across fields, demonstrating the significant impact AI can have on education and administrative practices.
