As organizations increasingly feel the pressure to adopt generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI), IT leaders are expressing concerns about potential long-term impacts on their infrastructure. A recent study by Console Connect revealed that 69% of IT decision-makers believe their current network infrastructure lacks the capacity to fully leverage Gen AI.
Moreover, 76% of respondents indicated that rushing to adopt this technology could have negative repercussions on their IT infrastructure planning. This survey included insights from 1,000 CTOs and senior IT leaders across various regions including Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, the UK, and the US.
Despite these apprehensions, 76% of IT teams reported facing increasing pressure to integrate Gen AI tools into their operations. Interestingly, 88% of those who have not yet adopted the technology plan to do so soon.
When asked about their concerns regarding Gen AI, 70% cited the risk of cyberattacks or data breaches, with this concern peaking at 90% among Australian respondents. Additionally, 41% of participants noted cybersecurity risks as a significant barrier to immediate adoption, while 39% pointed to a lack of IT expertise.
In Singapore, 82% of IT leaders expressed caution, believing that the rush to adopt Gen AI could adversely affect their organization’s technology planning. Despite this, 89% have already included Gen AI in their strategic roadmap.
Paul Gampe, CTO of Console Connect, emphasized the unprecedented demand Gen AI places on networks, urging leaders to consider both short- and long-term implications when handling sensitive data across various cloud environments.
Furthermore, a separate study from SAS found that 90% of decision-makers do not fully understand Gen AI’s impact on business processes. Among those who have implemented Gen AI, 75% expressed concerns about data privacy and security, with only 5% having a reliable system to measure bias and privacy risks in large language models (LLMs).
Nevertheless, 75% of organizations surveyed indicated they have allocated budgets for Gen AI in the upcoming financial year.
